Keeping track of what you eat
You need to keep track of what you consume in order to see where the bulk of your energy is coming from. Start off simple by just using a notepad to track your food intake. This gives you a tracked record that you can look back on to see emrging habits e.g. I eat more in the evening than I should. You don’t need to over complicate the process. All you need to track is what you ate, when you ate it and how many calories worth did you eat. That’s it.
Calorie counter
The internet had many free calories counters to tell what foods contain how much energy. Some sites may even offer meal planners to help you structure your calorie intake.
Calories counters are really useful for those food items that don’t have the calorie information on the packaging like some meat, fruits and vegetables. A lot of popular restaurant will have calorie info on their menu on their websites, check it out and use it to keep track of what you eat when you go out. You need to remember that all foods have calories, you need calories to provide your body with fuel but your body only needs a certain amount each day, the rest it stores as fat. You want to try and eat healthy foods but remember that even healthy foods like nuts are very high in calories so keep track of how much you eat. Try to avoid consuming calories via drinks like sodas and coffees. If you must drink soda then have the occasional diet soda.
Eating at restaurants
You don’t have to sacrifice going out altogether. More and more restaurants are catering for health conscious customers. Places like PizzaHut have salad bars so eat this instead of a large pizza with cheese garlic bread, always lookout for lower calorie options as most restaurants do have them.

Watch those snacks
Buy snacks that are packaged into small portions of less than 200 calories. This way you know what to take and there is less chance of you accidentally overeating. If your favourite snack is not prepackaged then just buy some sealable bags and measure out a 100 calorie portion and make several of them so they’re ready when you feel like snackish. Be careful that you don’t get tempted into grabbing a few bags and gorging on them. Snacks from the supermarket are usually not very healthy so go easy on them, snack on thinks like nuts and seeds instead.
Piggin’ out
Some people think it’s ok to save your calories and then gorge on a 1500 calorie fast food meal at the end of the day. This will just spike your insulin levels and cause alot of that food being stored as fat. Eat foods that have a high quantity of nutrients in them like vegetables and fish. Try to eat as much natural foods as possible and you’ll find that you end up eating a lot of low calorie, high nutrient content foods.
Counting calories is probably the simplest way to get started on your weight loss journey. Log everything you eat and watch out for any patterns in your eating habits, once you get comfortable with that you can start adding some exercise into it and really jolt your weight loss.
